Solar Communities

About the Solar Communities program

The Australian Government recognises the important role community and household solar plays in Australia's transition to a low emissions economy.

The Australian Government's $5 million Solar Communities Program provides funding for community groups in selected regions across Australia to install rooftop solar photovoltaic, solar hot water and solar-connected battery systems at their facility to reduce emissions, reduce their electricity costs and support renewable energy.

Round 1 of the Program opened in January 2017, and provided over $2.8 million in support for 218 community groups including; sporting clubs, Scouts, welfare centres, surf lifesaving clubs and Country Women's Associations.

Round 2 of the Program was open from 31 May 2018 and closed on 7 June 2018.

Round 2 was open to community groups in selected regions to apply for funding of up to $12,500. The Program is being delivered by the AusIndustry Grants Hub, in consultation with the Department.

Further details on Round 2 of the Program, including program guidelines, application forms and eligibility requirements for applicants can be found on the AusIndustry Grants Hub website or on the GrantConnect website.
